Altigranis an associate professor at the Institute of Computing at the Federal University of Amazonas (IComp / UFAM), where he works as a researcher, teacher and supervisor at the undergraduate, master's and doctoral levels. He completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at UFMG in 2002 and his research interests involve Data Management, Information Retrieval and Data Mining with an emphasis on the World-Wide Web environment and Social Media.

On these subjects, he has coordinated and participated in several research projects that have resulted in more than 100 scientific publications in periodicals and conference annals of good quality in these areas. He coordinated conference program committees in Brazil and abroad, and also participated as a member of technical program committees at some 40 international conferences and workshops.

He held between 2007 and 2009 the UFAM Research and Graduate Degrees . In the 2011-2013 triennium, he was the Adjunct Coordinator of the Computing area at CAPES and is currently a member of the CNPq CA-CC. Between 2005 and 2015 he was a member of the board of directors of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC), and is currently a member of the board of the Company.

He is a co-founder of technology ventures, including Akwan Information Technologies, acquired by Google Inc. in 2005, and Neemu.com, an online retail technology company that is a leader in Brazilian e-commerce and acquired by Linx Sistemas in 2015. In 2013 a doctoral thesis under his guidance received the First Place in the Competition of Thesis and Dissertation of the Brazilian Society of Computation (SBC) and Honorable Mention in the CAPES Award of Thesis. Also received in 2013 the Prize of Outstanding Member of SBC for its work with the Special Commissions of the society, contributing to the improvement of Qualis CAPES of Conferences in the area of ​​Computer Science. In 2015 he was the winner of one of the "Google Research Awards in Latin America" ​​as an advisor.
