Associate of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) and IEEE. He holds a degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1986-1989), a Master's Degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1990-1994), a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne (1995-1999) and postdoctoral degree in security at the Cybercrime and Computer Security Center at Newcastle University (2012-2013).

He is currently a professor at the Faculty of Informatics (FACIN) of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), evaluator of teaching conditions at the Ministry of Education, ad hoc consultant at CNPq, CAPES and FAPERGS. He served as director of FACIN / PUCRS between 2005 and 2011; as Deputy Coordinator for Professional Programs of CAPES / MEC (2014-2018), as assistant director of training and teaching of SUCESU-RS between 2008 and 2011; member of the board of ASSESPRO-RS between 2008 and 2011; member of the technical and advisory council of SOFTSUL; member of the Research Ethics Committee of PUCRS; as Director of Education of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC), (2015-2017); and, as Director of Business Coordination with SBC (2013-2015); He has experience in Computer Science, with emphasis on Basic Software, working mainly on the following topics: system security, fault tolerance, software testing, operating systems and analytical modeling of reliable systems.
