The Brazilian Association for the Promotion of Innovation in Technology Platforms - BRAFIP, created in 2015, had its origin in the BRAFIP Project (Brazilian Future Internet Platform) under the FIRST Program, from 2009 to 2011, which was a collaborative initiative between several countries, It is funded by the Seventh Framework Program of the European Commission to foster international cooperation in technological areas such as the Internet of the Future and Information and Communication Technology between Europe and Latin America.

The FIRST Program aimed to introduce the concept of European Technology Platforms (ETPs) in Latin America by bringing together industry, academia and government strategic stakeholders to create Latin American Technology Platforms (LATPs) in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico.

The FIRST Project was succeeded by the CONECTA 2020 Project, funded under the European Union's Seventh Framework Program (FP7), which aimed to implement new Latin American Technology Platforms (LATPs) in Costa Rica, Peru and Uruguay. strengthening of the Brazilian Technology Platform (BRAFIP) to promote collaborative Development and Innovation Research through consortia of companies and research centers (ICTs) of the European Union and Latin America. Over the period 2014-2020, the main source of funding for consortia is the European Commission's Horizon 2020 (H2020) Fund.
