Brazilian

The Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG) is a public university established in 1952. UFCG is involved in many research and development projects, some of them involving international cooperation. These R&D activities are managed by UFCG's support agency Fundação Parque Tecnológico da Paraíba (PaqTc-PB).

The Grid and High Performance Computing Group (GRyCAP) from the Universitat Politècnica de València, has a very strong background in distributed cloud computing and data management, especially in the area of biomedicine. GRyCAP has shared and extended its expertise through active participation in over 30 national and European R&D projects on HPC, grid and cloud technologies.

Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) was founded in 1927. UFMG is a public institution of higher education of excellence, recognized as a national reference in terms of academic-scientific production. The Undergraduate Program in Computer Science has been consistently ranked as the best in the country in the recent years. Moreover, the Ministry of Education has ranked UFMG, along with four other institutions, the best graduate programs in the country.

The University of Brasilia is a reference in higher education and research in Brazil. It was created in 1962 with a visionary project and since then, it has been an important institution in the capital of Brazil. For this project, two research laboratories of the Department of Computer Science will collaborate with ATMOSPHERE. First, the COMNET (Computer Networks Lab), which was created in 2010. The other laboratory that will contribute to this project is the LaICo (Laboratory of Integrated and Concurrent systems) which was created in 2000.

Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI) is one of the technical universities in Italy. It was established in 1863 and is ranked as one of the most outstanding European universities in engineering, architecture and industrial design. POLIMI participates in this project through members of Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria (DEIB), with a mult-disciplinary group belonging specifically to the DEpendable Evolvable Pervasive Software Engineering (DEEP- SE), and Advanced Network Technologies Laboratory (ANTLab).

As an innovative company, QUIBIM is specially dedicated to medical image processing and extraction of imaging biomarkers for the medical imaging workflows. QUIBIM is spin-off of La Fe Health Research Institute in Valencia (related to La Fe Polytechnics and University Hospital). The company services are based on the development of software tools and computing techniques with medicine and health applications, and the design of new workflows for disease diagnosis and treatment evaluation using image processing techniques.

The University of Coimbra (UC) is a reference institution in higher education and research in Portugal, due to the quality of its courses and its results in pure and applied research in various areas of knowledge. Among its eight faculties, the Faculty of Sciences and Technology (FCTUC) comprises 11 Departments, which cover the majority of the scientific areas. FCTUC research activities are carried out in the scope of 16 Research Units and several Associated Research Units that constitute a national and international reference in science production in a vast number of fields.

The University of Piraeus was founded in 1938 under the title of the “School for Industrial Studies”, by the Industrialists and Tradesmen Association. The Department of Digital Systems covers the areas of digital and network services, broadband (wireless and optical) networks, as well as the security of digital systems. The department’s research staff consists of 25 faculty members, 20 postdoctoral researchers and 75 PhD candidates, whose collective expertise covers many key areas in distributed systems and services.
